Floris London & The Royals: A Timeless Legacy in British Perfumery
Table of contents
For nearly three centuries, Floris London has held a distinguished place at the heart of British luxury. Our deep connection with the British Royal Family has spanned generations, through bespoke scents, historic occasions, and the honour of Royal Warrants. Join us as we trace our fragrant legacy from 1820 to today, a journey that celebrates the monarchy through scent.
1820: Our First Royal Warrant – His Majesty King George IV
Our royal journey began in 1820 , when His Majesty King George IV awarded Floris London its first Royal Warrant, appointing us as Smooth Pointed Comb Makers. This royal recognition marked the beginning of a long and honourable relationship with the Crown, one that would shape our future as Britain's oldest fragrance retailer.
1840: A Fragrance for Her Majesty Queen Victoria’s Wedding Day
In 1840, we were privileged to create Bouquet de La Reine, a delicate, radiant floral perfume gifted to Her Majesty Queen Victoria on her wedding day to His Royal Highness Prince Albert.
The fragrance, which translates to "The Queen’s Bouquet", captured the grace and romance of the young Queen, with a heart of white florals, soft sandalwood, and a touch of violet leaf, timeless and tender. This exquisite scent would later be revisited for a royal milestone of the modern era.
1980s: A Royal Visit – HRH The Princess of Wales Opens Tiverton Warehouse
A cherished moment in our history came during the 1980s when Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales (Diana) visited Floris and formally opened our warehouse in Tiverton. Known for her elegance and warmth, her presence added a new chapter to our royal connection, one we fondly remember.

2002: A Golden Jubilee Tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
To mark the Golden Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2002, we reimagined Bouquet de La Reine as a modern adaptation. This updated creation stayed true to its original spirit, while reflecting the Queen’s timeless sophistication and five decades of dedicated service.
With gentle notes of lily of the valley, peach, and a base of vanilla and oakmoss, this fragrance became a contemporary tribute to both tradition and legacy.
2018: A Bespoke Wedding Gift for TRH The Duke and Duchess of Sussex
In 2018, Floris London was honoured to create a bespoke unisex fragrance as a wedding gift to Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, on the occasion of their marriage at Windsor Castle.
Inspired by our beloved Bergamotto di Positano, the scent was a glowing Mediterranean blend of bergamot, orange blossom, and green tea, softened by vanilla and ambrette, a radiant fragrance symbolising unity, warmth, and new beginnings.
2022: Platinum 22 – Celebrating the Platinum Jubilee
In celebration of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee, Floris unveiled Platinum 22, a refined and regal fragrance honouring her seventy years of reign.
Crafted using ingredients sourced from across the Commonwealth, Platinum 22 is a sophisticated blend of orris, rose, and blackcurrant, enriched with cedarwood and tonka bean. The scent embodies the grace, strength, and legacy of a truly historic monarch.
2023: A New Royal Warrant from His Majesty King Charles III
Continuing our royal heritage into a new era, Floris London was honoured to receive a Royal Warrant from His Majesty King Charles III in 2023, under the title of:
"Manufacturers of Toilet Preparations to HM The King."
