Perfume Etiquette: Do's & Don't of Wearing Perfume

Floris have been creating perfume for almost 300 years, during this time we have discerningly created a perfume etiquette of how apply, store and change your scent according to the season.

Update Your Fragrance According to the Season

Depending on the season, the perfume you choose should reflect the environment you are in. In a humid country, you may consider a fresher, lighter citrus or marine scent – Sirena, JF, or Cefiro may be the right choice for the occasion. If it a cold winter day, you might try a woody or amber perfume that provides warmth and spice, such as Leather Oud, A Rose For, or Santal.

Change your Scent for the Occasion

Depending on the event, time of day, and mood, a scent can be truly transformative. A zesty citrus may be the perfect tonic to start your day, Perhaps Limes or Special No.127. For the evening, you might prefer a woody or amber scent that is a little heavier and perhaps more mysterious, Cherry Blossom or Honey Oud may just add the sparkle that is needed to your evening out.

Avoid Rubbing Scent on the Skin

It is unnecessary to rub perfume once applied to the skin. Spray it on the pulse points and let it evaporate naturally or spritz the scent into the air and walk into the cloud of fragrance if your skin is prone to sensitivity.

Try Scenting your Hair

Spritz a little Cherry Blossom Bouquet Hair Mist onto your hair for a different fragrance experience. This is a long-lasting way to apply fragrance, coating each strand in a lovely cherry sweetness.

Hydrate Your Skin

Fragrance lasts longer on moisturized skin. Using an unscented body lotion or body oil is the best way to extend the life of a fragrance. Making sure your skin is hydrated will keep your Floris scent lasting longer.

Scent Storage

The best way to store perfume is out of direct sunlight and to avoid fluctuating temperatures. Keeping the perfume in a neutral environment is the best way to ensure its longevity. Natural ingredients can be altered and age faster if exposed to extreme condition, either too much heat or freezing conditions.

Top, Heart & Middle Notes

Perfume is characterized by top, middle and base notes, its important to remember that the initial scent dissipate quickly, within 5 to 15 minutes, the heart notes are then revealed, lasting up to an hour, the base notes finally emerge and these can last up to 6 hours or more.

Test on Skin

Perfume is unique as you, testing on your skin is essential to understand how the perfume interacts with your skin. It varies from person to person and its essential to test on your skin to make sure you know how the perfume will smell on you.
